My favourite Australian writer, John Birmingham, has a thoughful post on vegetarianism and lesbianism. He notes the two often seem to go together.
I’ve noticed one other thing: a disproportionate number, at least in this country, seem to be into goat farming. A mate and I were discussing the high number of lesbian types who seem to be involved in the farming of caprine quadrupeds, along with other issues of great social significance, over a glass or three of Kingfisher Lager a few months back.
I opined that perhaps the reason for this is the farming of goats is still ‘alternative’, and is part of a general rejection of NZ’s prevailing socio-economic mores.
Patriarchy, and rejection thereof, is probably also involved somewhere in there.
My mate, who is a thoughtful and insightful kind of chap, mulled this over for a bit.
“Nahh,” he decided.
“It’s the beards.”
