ANZAC is difficult to write about because its all pretty much been said.
But it seems like not a bad day to note what I don’t like aobut the signs on State Highway One advertising the Waiouru Military Museum.
It bugs me every time I drive past (and I did so again, yesterday). Under a picture of old servicemen on Anzac Day is the line ‘See what these eyes have seen.’
That is just wrong. Wrong factually, because no museum could possibly present such a thing, and if they did few people would want to visit.
Wrong in a wider sense too because it seems to me the whole point of Anzac Day is to respect the fact that the blokes who went to war saw things, horrific things, the rest of us will never have to see.
