Bicuspid aortic valve (bav) refers to a spectrum of deformed aortic valves with two functional leaflets or cusps which are often unequal in size. Recognition of the chambers and valves of the heart and the blood vessels connected to it in dissected hearts or in diagrams of heart structure. The left atrioventricular/bicuspid valve is also called the mitral valve since it only has two cusps and resembles a miter in shape.

The bicuspid valve, also known as the mitral valve, is a structure in the left side of the heart that controls the flow of oxygenated blood.

The four valves are commonly represented in a mammalian heart that determines the pathway. When there are two leaflets only, it is called a bicuspid aortic valve.
